We had some loggers on our property (150 acres - pasture and trees) last winter and they tore the place up and went out of business before I could get them to fix their mess. Now I have lots of 2 foot deep ruts and trees and limbs scattered all over the place. It makes mowing a real challenge but I have been cleaning up slowly as I go. I have a Kubota B2400 with FEL and rear grooming mower at the house for tending the 10 acres of lawn and pasture there and 2 old farm tractors to handle the mowing and feeding at the farm. At the beginning of the year I will be getting a new 2-WD Kubota M8200 to replace the old farm tractors. I need advice on what impliments to get either for the new tractor or the compact to fill and level all the ruts and move all the downed timber. I think I can do a lot of the work with the B2400, it'll just take time, but the M8200 is probably a better tool for the job. Do I need a box blade, grader blade or big FEL for the new tractor to make the best job of the renovation. As you can tell, I've never done any major reconstruction work before so any advice would be welcome before I go and invest major bucks in some impliment that wont do the job. When I'm out there I would also like to improve and level the pastures which are pretty rough. Advice and opinions ..... Please.

Unless your woodlot is open enough to allow your tractor to get in to everything you need to skid out I would highly recommend a logging/farm winch :-)Typically they will have cable lengths of 120-250 feet with hauling speeds of 2-5 feet/sec....much faster than your typical truck winch.With the winch you can haul bunches of logs to your tractor on the road and then skid them out with the tractor withou having to play dodge the tree.Good LuckKim ....

I bought a tractor, loader and skidding winch from www.easternfarmmachinery.com for under 17k for use in my bush. I think they sell blades as well, maybe they can help. ....

Repairing ruts in tight quarters;What I`ve done in such situations is put the tiller on along with the front-end loader and `till` the rutted area.Sometimes I add top soil left over from putting in a road and then grade it with the front-end loader.The answer may not be `equipment` but a load or two of soil.For me the mounds of soil from a 1300 ft. road has been s godsend over the years. ....

Rutted post logging;I had a similiar deal in an open corn field after a combine wallowed though a wet fall harvest leaving behind long ruts. The next spring I hired a nearby farmer to deep chisel plow,disc and cultipack[grooved cast-iron wheels on an axle] and then plant oats with clover and timothy hay.Instead of oats some farmers plant a pea that they chop for silage-same difference.If the`re a lot of roots you may need a Caterpiller to run a subsoiler[ a really deep chisel] to pull the roots up . The farmer had a large 4 wheel tractor with a 20ft chisel plow but a narrower one should work fine. Some jobs are just too heavy for a small tractor. ....

Thanks for all the advice and ideas. I think I've got a gameplan now. The farm/logging winch looks like a great idea and I'm following through on it. I think I'll put a front-end loader on the big, new tractor and run the compact with the FEL and the tiller. Still might need a stump grider though. It'll take time but we'll get it done. Once again, thanks for the help. ....
